Recital Frequently Asked Questions


  • The BCDC recital will take place on Friday and Saturday May 30th & 31st, 2025. The Friday show will begin at 7:00 P.M. and the Saturday show will begin at 2:00 P.M.

    The recital will take place at the Polk State College Fine Arts Auditorium.

  • Tickets will be available on the BCDC website starting Saturday, May 3rd at 12:00 P.M.

    There will be a tab at the top that says “Tickets". Click on that tab and click on the link that say ““ to access the ticket purchasing website.

  • Tickets will cost $18 per ticket.

  • You can purchase as many tickets as you would like?

  • Yes, you will pick your seats when you are purchasing your tickets.

  • Yes! Please see your teacher for a copy of the rehearsal schedule. The rehearsal schedule cover the special rehearsals from Monday, May 19th- Wednesday, May 28th that will take place at the studio and the dress rehearsal and show times for Thursday, May 29th-Saturday, May 31st.

  • If you or your child aren’t sure, please confirm with their teachers about the extra rehearsal days and times.

  • If your child needs something extra, please contact the teacher if you have any question about what they need. A list of these extra items is included in the April newsletter.

  • Yes! There is a sign-up in the May newsletter and a QR code you can scan in the lobby to sign-up for a time slot.

    Costume portraits cost $35 for the first 10 minutes and $25 for any additional 10-minute sessions.

  • As many as you want! Each 10 minute time slot is reserved for one (1) costume. Each additional costume will require the reservation of an additional 10 minute time slot.

  • Yes! The dress rehearsal will be held at the Polk State College Fine Arts Auditoriam on Thursday, May 29th from 3:00-9:00 P.M.

  • We will be rehearsing the second half of the show first to let the primary dancers and foundation dancers who are not in Tap A finish as early as possible. Tap A dancers may go home as soon as they have rehearsed their dance, which is towards the beginning of the first half of the show. These young dancers will not have to stay until 9:00 P.M.

  • It is recommended that you take your costumes home with you each night.

    It would be acceptable to leave certain items such as clothing racks but it is best to be safe and take home all costumes every night.

  • Yes! We will have a lost and found table setup backstage. If you left anything at the studio, please contact Laura Salzlein. We will collect anything we see at the studio the night before and bring it with us to the theater.

  • The backstage doors will open 2 hours prior to show time. The backstage doors will open Friday, May 30th at 5:00 P.M and Saturday, May 31st at 12:00 P.M.

  • We will have signs on the dressing room doors indicating which age level will be in each room.

    Please adhere to these signs as they are thoughtfully considered with the dancer’s age and number of dances in mind.

  • No! We want to leave our costumes as a surprise for our audience. Wearing our costumes anywhere other than the studio or auditorium ruins that surprise. It also increases the likelihood that costumes get messed up or ruined.

  • The auditorium will open 30 minutes prior to the start of the show. The house doors will open at 6:30 P.M. on Friday, May 30th and 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, May 31st.

  • Yes! We will have shirts, bags, and magnets for sale in the lobby!

  • Yes! Your dancer may sit in the audience with you. They can sit in your lap or you can purchase an additional ticket from them. However, we do require that dancers do not wear their costumes in the auditorium. Dancers are required to change into their costumes backstage and not wear them. in the lobby or auditorium.

  • If you have a primary/foundation age child, it would be best to keep them in the audience with you during the first half of the show. We will have a couple of adult babysitters available to watch your primary/foundation age child in a holding room during the second half of the show. You can change your child into their costume during intermission and they can be taken to the holding room. The holding room will be Room #118. If you have trouble finding the room, please find your child’s teacher or Laura Salzlein backstage to assist.

  • Yes, you may be backstage with your dancer. Please just make sure that you are respectful of the space of other dancers who need room for their belongings and costumes.

  • Please only have your other children backstage if absolutely necessary. Backstage gets a little crazy so adding extra children adds to the wildness. If at all possible, please try to have your other children with their other parent or trusted adult. The dressing rooms get packed and hot with all the body heat!

  • You may have food and drink backstage but there is absolutely NO eating or drinking anything other than water while in costume. We don’t want to ruin them! If you do choose to have food and drink backstage, please don’t eat or drink anything messy that would leave dark stains and keep all food and drink away from costumes- even if they aren’t being worn.

  • Makeup is not a requirement for young children. Parents can do as much makeup on their little ones as they feel comfortable.

    Please just keep in mind that the lights on stage are very bright and adding some color to your dancers face will help keep them from being washed out.

    False eyelashes are not required for any age dancer.

  • If your child is in a ballet dance, their hair will need to be in a bun.

    If they are in other dances, they will need to check with their teacher about how they want their hair to be styled.

  • Dancers may wear stud earrings only. Please no hoop earrings, watches, or other jewelry.

  • Yes! Please put their name in their costumes, shoes, undergarments, accessories, etc.

    The recital is fast paced and costumes are flying backstage. To avoid costumes mixed up or lost, please label everything!

  • Yes! You may think that being backstage means the audience can’t hear you but it is possible to hear when you are being loud. It is also disruptive to those on stage who are performing. This includes being quiet in the dressing rooms, hallway, and side of the stage.

  • Don’t touch them! Please leave all props alone and where they are if they do not belong to you or your dancer.

  • Please wait until the end of the show to have any friends visit backstage. There are lots of dancer changing during intermission and we respectfully request that friends wait to visit until after the show is over.

  • Yes! At the very end of the show, all dancers will come on stage for a curtain call. This curtain call will be rehearsed during dress rehearsal.

  • All small children will stay on stage after curtain call. The curtain will be lowered and then raised again. After it is raised, parents will come and get their child form the stage.

  • Please contact the studio and let us know if you left anything.

    We will be scouring the dressing rooms and backstage area before we leave on Saturday. We will collect all items left behind and return them to the studio for pickup at a later date.
